I have found in this life that I am but a pawn.

All analogies have holes. Let me state up front that this one has many, and many other things to be added (and taken away). I've been playing a lot of chess. This is a reflection of what I have learned--I used to think pawns were the worst pieces. On the contrary, I've learned they are vital to controlling the board.

Also, Jesus is not the King on the board--He does not need protecting.
Therein lies a gaping hole--where is Jesus in the analogy?
God is the player, however, his opponent isn't really satan, because God is so much bigger.

I have found in this life that I am but a pawn. A pawn, though limited, has a vital role to play in the battle of light vs. dark. (we already know the victor, as it has been foretold long ago and written in the deepest parts of my heart.)

Oh let me walk in the path of righteousness!

There are many of us. We move together as a family, calculated and in turn. Let us not be separated! We are easily picked off unprotected, but together are a force to be reckoned with. Let us be focused on our goal.

As we work together we form a wall of opposition to protect our helpers who can move differently than us, all with the end goal in mind. Victory. Each one of us has an intrinsic part.

Let me stand in the gap as the protector of those with a bigger destiny to fulfill, and if I have a choice I'd like to stay in the game longer. I will stand tall, head held high, I will look my opposer straight in the eye. My destiny will be fulfilled through the author of life who guides me--He is glorious and worthy to be praised.

Sometimes we are sacrificed for the greater good. A good player uses every move for a purpose. I have a purpose, and trust in the one who holds my life in His hands.

In the story of two people, both equally seeking God, one dies and the other grows old. Neither remain young. Beauty is fleeting and this life is but a breath. In the case of age, things are the most beautiful before they die--I want that. Let me not fear age but embrace wisdom, the beginning of which is the fear of the Lord.
